RaceTech Steel Origins
It all began back in 1981 when British International Trading P/L commenced importing and stocking materials for automotive and more specifically motorsport applications.
This saw the successful developments of two brands of materials in the R531(Reynolds 531) tube and also our own BiTube products for roll cage material in both CAMS and ANDRA categories of race cars as well as a significant market in the Go Kart chassis manufacturing industry in Australia at that time.
In the early 1990s a significant restructuring of the European Steel industry saw the demise of both these materials. The European steel industry saw minimum mill requirement for raw material hollows go to unsustainable levels. Subsequently, British International directors sought to replace these materials in their growing stock and service business with the very best of ongoing available products.
Through extensive supply-side and customer-side research, they settled on the 4130N grade of alloy steel primarily available ex USA at that time, as the best choice for replacing the earlier stocked products.
Specified as Mil T 6736B Cond N was increasingly in demand and widely applicable to the automotive, motorsports, aviation, and aerospace markets, and with careful sourcing, saw British International grow the stocked size range to over 200 different items. In 1996 they launched Racetech.
Steel branding. RT650 covered the Mil T 6736B 4130N materials, and RT350 covered the high tensile mild steel in ASTM A-513 CDW and ASTM A-519 CDS and DOM products.
In 2004 BIT, purchased the Hawker Pacific metals business, as they moved more toward aircraft components.
The Racetech Steel division of British International Trading P/L has become one of the main stock and service activities of the company until a decline from 2004-2007. In late 2007 Hi Tech components Pty Ltd. made an offer on the steel side of B.I.T. and subsequently purchased the stock and goodwill. With a new focus on customer service and availability of hard to find sizes, we set about growing the business and in 2011 moved to our state of the art facility in middle of Eastern Creeks booming motorsport hub.
Today Racetech Steel has increased the stock levels to become one of, if not the largest stockists of 4130 Chromoly (chrome moly) and CDS Mild Steel in Australia.
Most recently, Racetech Steel has branched out to meet the demand of the motorsports and aircraft industries by taking over the Pro-Tools USA Australian distributorship in March 2017. We now stock one of the most versatile entry level tube and pipe benders on the market, The Pro Tools 105 Heavy Duty Manual Bender and a specific range of accessories as well as a large range of tube and pipe dies
